In the Desert

I've come down with a mild case of wanderlust, and I can't help but reminisce about my trip to Palm Springs in early 2011.  The warm temperatures, endless palm trees, mid-century architecture, relaxed resortwear, clusters of scenic windmills, and laid-back lifestyle all appeal to my inner traveler.  Not to mention the mind-boggling selection of snacks at Hadley Fruit Orchards, the friendly

Saturday Soirées

I spent my Saturday evening hopping to various events around L.A., and the d.RA Clothing sample sale was my first stop. Hosted by a handful of popular bloggers in collaboration with Lookbook.nu, it was a high energy shopping party. With a strong mix of fall 2011 and spring 2012 clothing from dRA and Kasil Workshop, jewelry by Social Grace, shoes by Seychelles, and various snacks and beverages

Shopping at the Ventura Flea Market

Today must have been my lucky day, since I not only found the exact type of kimono I was looking for at the Ventura Flea Market, but I also managed to avoid the unusually rainy weather that began shortly after I left. The vendor and shopper turnout was better than usual, and oddly enough, although the Ventura Flea Market only takes place 6 times per year, it has rained on the last three.

10 Things To Do When In Rome

1. Follow the local custom by ordering pizza and eating it with a knife and fork.
2. Don't be intimidated by the aggressive Roman drivers and follow the advice of one of my tour guides by saying a prayer each time you cross the street.
3. Eat gelato and savor a refreshing cappuccino as an afternoon snack.
4. Tour the Colosseum, admire its architecture, and soak in its hundreds of years of history

Berried

I spent some time this weekend at the Strawberry Festival in Oxnard. You may remember some of my photos from last year's festival. This year, I sampled the strawberry pizza again, and also tried the D.I.Y. strawberry shortcake, which is fun to make. I've since learned that eating a minimal breakfast before going and taking the shuttle (to avoid parking inconveniences) make for a better

Roaming in Rome

Ciao! My absence from Fashion Trend Guide can be explained by a short trip to Rome and London earlier this month. Although I'm quite jet lagged and still recovering from the 8-9 hour time difference, I wanted to post a few of my favorite photos. Highlights from the trip include: exploring and getting lost in the endless piazzas and narrow, cobblestone streets of Rome, touring the Vatican along

Sunny in Santa Monica

As a child, I have fond memories of sitting in the backseat of a car and enjoying the scenery along PCH in Malibu. Most of my mother's family lived there, so frequent outings to the area are forever ingrained in the fabric of my childhood. Specific landmarks stand out in my mind: the castle (which, sadly enough, burned down recently), Pepperdine University, Zuma beach, Gladstone's, and the Getty

My Dream

I've made a brief and somewhat shaky video with scenery taken from my Palm Springs vacation. Hopefully, the beauty of the landscape will outweigh the result of having unsteady hands.

10 Things To Do In Palm Springs

I took no less than 268 photos during my short time in Palm Springs last week, and I want to share a few more of my favorites here. Fortunately, daytime temperatures were just about perfect, while nighttime dressing required a light jacket; it seems that I picked the ideal time of year to visit. With summer temperatures reaching well over 100 degrees, I don't plan on visiting between May and

From Palms to Pines

I spent some time vacationing in Palm Springs this week for a much needed change of scenery and some relaxation. With the charming mid-century architecture, warm weather, ubiquitous palm trees, quiet desert scenery, and relaxing ambience, it was perfect for recharging and acquainting myself with a part of California that I hadn't yet explored. I must admit that recent editorials in Lucky and

Getting Outdoorsy in Ojai

I took my dog out to enjoy the sunny weather and explore some parks in the Ventura/Ojai area yesterday. My first stop was a place nestled in the hills outside of Ventura. There lies an abandoned outdoor ampitheater built in 1928, complete with graffiti, overgrown ivy, piles of leaves, shy squirrels, and gorgeous views. Despite its state of decay and disrepair, I think it's the ideal place for a

One Forty Nine

I've spent some time playing around with iMovie and the result is a brief compilation of some amateur video I captured while on the way back from my trip to Solvang last week. I couldn't resist capturing the peaceful beauty of the area with my point-and-shoot camera. (The Santa Ynez Valley is a great place to shop for antiques, meander around small towns, enjoy the scenic views, and engage in

Finding Solitude in Solvang

My sparse presence on Twitter and the blog can be explained by a quick road trip to the charming town of Solvang and the peaceful Santa Ynez Valley. During my two days there, I: ate more Danish pancakes and pastries than I could count, brought my dog along to enjoy the scenery, marveled at the beauty of the Mission Santa Inés, explored the local Farmers' Market, browsed a few upscale antique

If you've never heard of DEVON, it's a new luxury men's and women's lifestyle collection that offers state-of-the-art timepieces, premium denim, leather, fine jewelry, home furnishings, ready-to-wear, and couture pieces, in addition to

I Had A Dream I Woke Up In Santa Barbara

In the spirit of fashion and style bloggers sharing their images in a photo/visual diary format, I thought I'd share a few photos taken in various places around Santa Barbara.

Face Hunting

When I first began reading street style blogs in 2006, Yvan Rodic's well-known blog, Facehunter, was one of the street style blogs that I admired the most. Something about his photos made me want to travel to each city and experience the denizens and the cityscapes. The Face Hunter always seems to find the beautiful people and their parties. Four years later, his images still draw me in and

Flea Marketing

In an attempt to keep boredom at bay, I spent my weekend doing things that I haven't done in a while. On Saturday night, I found myself at Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade for the first time in over a decade. As a consumate shopper, I adore the fact that the stores stay open until 10 or 11pm, giving me the chance to shop after a late dinner. On Sunday morning, I woke up extra early (due to

Fog City Photo Diary

My absence from the blog the past few days can be explained by a short trip to San Francisco. Fortunately, the weather was warm and pleasant upon my arrival, providing the ideal backdrop for outdoor activities and photos. Highlights include: catching a Bob Dylan performance just minutes before it began, walking down Lombard Street, scoring two Quontum dresses at the LF sale for $36 each,

It's Only Fair

This week I experienced the lure of the local fair with its sugary snacks, stuffed animals, live entertainment, dizzying rides, dozens of vendors (selling everything from taffy and alpaca sweaters to spas and grandfather clocks), and ocean views from the top of the ferris wheel. Food choices ranged from chocolate covered bacon and fried Twinkies to Pink's hot dogs and funnel cake. I'm already

Up In The Air

This past weekend I attended an air show, complete with plenty of stunts that left me gasping in admiration and awe. Having spent the good part of a day wandering around, chatting with pilots, inspecting aircraft, munching on junk food, and enjoying the mild weather, I learned a few things:1. Always wear ear plugs or headphones while attending an air show. It gets loud - think major roaring and
