Jeffrey Campbell Gets Groovie
These are the Jeffrey Campbell Groovie platforms that I managed to snag before they sold out at Lulus. (They were previously known as the Salvatore, after the original 1930s version by Salvatore Ferragamo that inspired them.) Although I've only had them for a day, I'm imagining the multiple ways I'll style them: with a white A-line mini dress and denim vest, with a black skater dress and floppy

Shades Made for the Sun
In recent weeks I've discovered that the geometric print hooded poncho that I impulsively bought at Forever 21 in January has become an unexpected and highly valued wardrobe staple for yours truly at Fashion Trend Guide. I admit that upon purchasing it, I didn't give much thought to how and where I'd wear it. I was drawn to the fun print and easy silhouette. Fortunately, it's become one of those

Mariel and Mary Jane
Many of you may not know that I have a twin sister. She is about six minutes younger, and her birth was a complete surprise to both my parents and the doctor. As the story goes, after I was born, the doctor remarked that he thought "there was another one in there" and asked my father to leave the room. My dad recalls hearing this and seeing the room spin. To this day, I don't think we look alike,

At Home
And now for a rare and perhaps unexpected peek inside my humble abode. About five years ago, I developed an interest in interior design and I began watching HGTV in search of knowledge and inspiration. I soon learned that I favored light, cool color palettes and ultra feminine shabby chic pieces. At home, I have a mix of items found at local antique and furniture stores combined with myriad

Backyard Blogging
I was just thinking today how lucky I am to be able to wear open-toed shoes in the middle of January. All the more motivation for me to update my pedicures more frequently. No snow, salt, or puddles to worry about, at least not for now. Letting the gorgeous spring-like weather guide my wardrobe choices proved to be both practical and predictable. Ok, so I should also mention that I was heavily

Black Magic
As 2011 gets off to a start, I find myself developing a new affinity for block heel platforms. While I typically reserve my limited shoe space for boots and wedges, I've already purchased three pairs of block heels this year, two of which were deeply discounted. Could it be that I'm finally starting to kick my wedge addiction? (No pun intended.) Having grown accustomed to the sturdy and solid

Seoul Searching
The lovely folks at AtSeoul contacted me to see if I'd like to feature some of their products. While this is nothing unusual, I clicked on over to have a look at their merchandise, and lo and behold, it was actually a good match for both my taste and budget. (Trust me, it doesn't happen very often, but when it does, it's because I want the store and the products to be a good match for Fashion

Perfect Pairings
Like classic black pumps and a sheath dress, or a vintage concert tee and leather moto jacket, I believe that some pieces just go together perfectly. An example of such a fashion pairing for me is the leopard print and red combination. It could be red lipstick and a leopard print cossack, a red handbag and chiffon leopard secretary blouse, or some red jeans and a faux fur leopard print jacket,

I Want Lanvin, Not Flowers
The voluminous shoulders on this dress dictate an off-the-shoulder hairstyle and simple, minimal accessories. While I went out of my way to seek this puffy floral number out while shopping the Lanvin ♥ H&M collection, I've since realized that it was well worth it. Not only is it well made compared to other dresses in the collection, but it's a standout piece that's unlike anything else that I own

All That Glitters is Lita
**Jan. 9, 2011 update - Please note that if you are not reading this post on http://fashiontrendguide.blogspot.com, then it was republished illegally and without permission. My recent preoccupation with shiny things has evolved from vintage sequin and beaded dresses found at local thrift stores to sheer glitter nail polish layered over dark colors for a multi-dimensional effect. It also includes a

It's Leopard Love
I rarely meet an animal print that I don't find myself drawn to. Leopard prints in particular are my ultimate weakness, especially when it comes to footwear. Having ogled many a blogger wearing the vertiginous Lita boots by Jeffrey Campbell, I knew I wanted to put them on my feet, however, they're offered in so many colorways that I found myself indecisive for weeks. I also hesitated to buy them

On Wisteria Lane
Last month a small fire burned very close to where I live, and in order to be prepared for a potential evacuation, I decided to pack up a few things. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time I've been in this situation. Interestingly enough, some of the first things I grabbed to take with me were my beloved shoes. Footwear has always been my main weakness when it comes to fashion, and lately,

Fresh From The Box
I pulled my Jeffrey Campbell Denmark boots out of the box when they arrived this evening with more anticipation than I've had in a while. The thick platform and sturdy heel make them comfortable, which is key for me when wearing 5" heels. I'm thinking these will be the first boots I grab when putting my outfits together for both day and night. Despite the fact that it's the middle of summer,

Bang On Trend
I've had various hairstyles with bangs (a.k.a. a fringe) for most of my life. As a five-year-old, my bangs were short and thick. When I grew tired of my long-hair-in-all-one-length phase in the '90s, my bags were shortened and they became above the shoulder and side swept. As a twenty-something, they were cut in choppy layers just above chin length. My most recent foray into fringe-wearing

Boot Camp
After admiring various versions of the ubiquitous studded combat boots by Bess, Jeffrey Campbell, and other brands, I finally got myself a pair. They were nicely displayed at none other than the cheap chic Strawberry store I visited at Lexington and 42nd in NYC. While I'm wary of the quality of my purchases from Strawberry, these boots seem to look better the more I wear them. I think a few

New Summer Neutrals
I decided to switch up my pedicure from a bubble gum pink to a new nail color that I received. The nail polish is a slightly shimmery taupe hue called Belly Dance from Shades by Barielle. It's from the disco-inspired High Steppin' collection, and I love that it contains no formaldehyde, toluene, or dibutyl-phthalate. The color is light enough to work with my summer shoes and the neutral mocha

Two New Shoes
I went a little shoe crazy this week, and purchased four pairs - three pairs from Topshop and one pair from the Cynthia Vincent for Target collection, which was released a few days early. Luckily, the first Topshop pair I ordered was shipped before the volcanic ash halted flights from England, and I received them much earlier than expected. (The other two pairs will likely be delayed, thereby

Summoning Spring
Despite the fact that I've been wearing boots almost daily, my three latest footwear purchases don't include boots at all; they are more appropriate for spring's warmer weather. It's no seret that clogs are one of my favorite spring 2010 shoe trends, and I can currently count two new pairs in my closet, both with heels sufficiently high enough to make me feel relatively tall. I'm anxiously

Lightening Up With Lavender
In an effort to recreate the gorgeous shade of muted lavender nail lacquer that I admired yesterday at a beauty supply shop, I decided to combine two of my own shades rather than buy yet another bottle of nail polish. You see, I probably own about 30 bottles of nail color right now, and my tendency to constantly buy nail polish is certainly in line with reports that purchases of beauty products

Potatoes and Polka Dots
My recent fondness for food photography doesn't mean this is turning onto a food & fashion blog, however, I delight in documenting meals that I thoroughly enjoy, so food photos may make more appearances on Fashion Trend Guide. Today's delicious lunch at one of my preferred local eateries consisted of a vegetable frittata, roasted potatoes, and biscuit. It was more than enough to fuel a short but
