Clothing as dwelling for the body

Athens School of Fine Arts is inaugurating its permanent collaboration with Athens Fashion Week this season.

This past week, four teams from the school started working in the Fashion Week's premises in Technopolis, participating in a workshop titled Clothes as a Dwelling for the Body under the supervision of Michalis Manousakis.

The students were called to create their own original work based on the concept of that clothes are literally acting as homes for our bodies. You can understand why it looks so interesting to me and hopefully to you, being readers of this blog.

The workshop started last Monday, March 28th and it was open to the public every afternoon, to visit and watch the students work. The presentation of the results will take place today, as a catwalk, at 21:00.

Future Sentiments

Future Sentiments is a fresh concept wear label founded by two architects between Amsterdam and Vilnius, Lithuania in late 2010.

Citing cosmic miracles and disco as some of their inspiration, I was mostly striken by the fresh point of view on t-shirt design, using clean, loose shapes, shiny inserts and the odd conceptual twist.

And by that I mean, wearing a t-shirt printed with something you use to "dress" your home?
That's architectural fashion with a twist.

Denis and Victoria - the couple behind the label - were kind enough to send me a lovely email introducing themselves and their work and arranged for me to have one of their designs, all the way from Lithuania, to post here on the blog.

How could I say no to fashion by architects?
As you may have guessed, I was quite into the whole concept of the carpet print as well as the top quality of the fabric and the sewing.

I was also very impressed by the packaging and labels.

I mean, this one above is the - quite hidden - washing instruction label, and they have thought of putting a nice message for you to discover there as well.

Lucy and Bart

Lucy and Bart is a collaboration between Lucy McRae and Bart Hess described as an instinctual stalking of fashion, architecture, performance and the body. They share a fascination with genetic manipulation and beauty expression. Unconsciously their work touches upon these themes, however it is not their intention to communicate this. They work in a primitive and limitless way creating future human shapes, blindly discovering low – tech prosthetic ways for human enhancement.
