Marni For H&M

Total Look: Marni For H&M

One of my favorite collaborations for this season is the one that Marni did with H&M. Eclectic, eccentric and full of powerful pieces. A blend of intense colors on african prints, perfect fit and high quality materials, such as silk. Marni always surprises me with the beautiful jewelry designs and the impressive shoes.
I chose to wear a pair of silk pants combined with a same print top and high clogs.

MFW AW12: GET CAPE, WEAR CAPE

Posted by Bethan Holt, Fashion Junior at Large

Given the amount of angst which capes cause when they're in the shops ("Where do you put your bag?", "The wind's blowing up it!") one sometimes wonders why designers persevere with them. But then you see them in their purest form, hung upon models with hands empty, perhaps save for a clutch bag and on a warm, wind free catwalk and we are once again seduced. This happened in Milan where capes popped up all week. There were long, swooshing cloaks and cute short capelets, plus everything inbetween. We love the grand, dark capes offered up by Dolce and Gabbana and Gucci, but Marni and Moschino showed a cape doesn't have to signify doom and gloom....

At Dolce and Gabbana, there were capes in all guises but they all contributed to the show's take on Catholic opulence- a cape hints at priests' cassocks and nuns' habits.

Gucci was goth with glamour. The capes were styled with jodhpur trousers, even if there were embellished with a ton of crystals,  and riding boots. These looks make me think of the  'Four Horsewomen of the Apocalypse'.

Marni and Moschino offered up brighter versions of the trend. Marni's red belted version is modern day Little Red Riding Hood while Moschino is blinged up 60s Park Avenue Princess- the mandarin collar is a sweet detail.

Etro's capelet, with Tudor red ruffle neck, is more structured. If you're not sure about the swooshing required of a larger cape, this is a nice compromise. This is what, one hopes, Elizabeth I would wear if she were alive now.

MET BALL 2010

Posted by fashion Editor at Large

Sienna Miller wearing Emilio Pucci and Jude Law at last nights Met Ball in New York.

When I first started working at Grazia, Sienna Miller and Jude Law were in the heat of their first love affair. I think media pressure broke them up. So I got an unexpected thrill of pleasure this morning when I saw they had made their first public engagement as a couple the second time around at last nights Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit to celebrate the opening of the exhibition “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity” aka (for obvious reasons) The Met Ball. The event was sponsored by Gap, with US Vogue, so a huge night for my friend Anita at the Gap, who has been working closely with Anna Wintour for weeks to ensure the night went smoothly. ANYWAY. Back to Jude and Sienna I do hope this time it is for keeps.  And don't they make just the most gorgeous couple. For some reason, I just love these two being back together.

The lovely Lauren Santo Domingo in Proenza Schouler
Carey Mulligan looking cute in Miu Miu
Kirsten Dunst with Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte. KD is wearing Rodarte for Gap. Wonder when (or rather if) that dress is coming in store????
Ms Bosworth never disapppoints. The Valentino dress is ravishing.

MY GIRL CRUSH ON CAREY MULLIGAN

Posted by the Fashion Editor at Large
Carey Mulligan in Nina Ricci chatting with Tom Ford on 17th January after the Golden Globes

I've never seen a movie that prominently features Carey Mulligan -something I plan to rectify as soon as possible by watching An Education - but I did see her at the Royal Court a few years ago in the play The Seagull and recall her from Pride & Prejudice. The relationship I am building with the 24 year old currently, though, is through her frequent red carpet outings. Her choice of designers is fascinating - she has worn copious amounts of Prada, as well as Lanvin, Bottega Veneta, Marni and two relatively unknown labels. The first being up-and-coming designer Prabal Gurung (I know, what a mouthful!) and Vionnet the french fashion house that, under new design leadership, is currently taking the fashion world by surprise at its fabulousness. I am a fan of every single outfit choice Carey has made since October, (and would like to take a moment to congratulate her stylist, Tiina Laakkonen) I can agree that she deserves the "new Audrey Hepburn" tag but more than that there is something so refreshing about her demeanour. She is cute and vulnerable and real, and looks like she is brilliantly surprised by her success. More than that she looks like she is super-connected to her emotions and feelings and is comfortable in her own skin. She allows nerves to creep in because why the heck wouldn't you be slightly bricking it in front of the world's paparazzi on a red carpet somewhere in Hollywood? I shan't say any more than that other than to show you why Carey is my girl of the moment. Bring on the BAFTA'S!
