Οn the Blocks

On the Blocks is a site-specific graffiti project, especially created for Vamiali's and curated by Anneta Papadatou.

The artists participating are Apset, Blaqk, Boohaha, ΜintOne and my dearest friend RTMone, whose sketchbook page is the one above.

The exhibition is opening tonight, at Vamiali's Gallery, Samou 1, Athens. Take the metro to Metaxourgio and exit at Diligianni street. See you there.

Tonight, we're gonna reach the sky

During ReMap 3, the international contemporary art programme in Metaxourgio / Keramikos district, Vamiali’s gallery with great pleasure will present the project “Reach the sky” in collaboration with Anneta Papadatou.

Reach the sky is a site-specific street art project, especially created for the open lot at 36 Leonidou street. An ad hoc construction will be built having as source of inspiration the city’s sky and point of departure the idea of the fenced space itself where the final result will be a surprise until the very last moment and will be completed little before the exhibition’s beginning. The participating well known graffiti artists, all very young with a fresh point of view, will work collaboratively and will question the limitations of their style using humor and creativity in an interactive approach within the environment itself. The final project will be flexible and in flux. Viewers will be able to see the exhibition during 24 hours.

Art Athina 2011

The Greek illustrator Christina Koutsospyrou, based in London, is famous for her unique style. Her work has been displayed in magazines, fashion houses, TV and record labels. Her highly praised illustrations reflect a combination of lost innocence and romanticism. Besides her digital work, Christina has produced screen prints that have been exhibited in a range of places in the region of London.

Damn, I really have to stop doing that thing where I first buy the t-shirt and then I find out who the amazing illustrator behind it is. Or not.

Annelie Carlström

Annelie Carlström is an illustrator from Sweden.

Remember that H&M t-shirt I got during my trip to Amsterdam last summer?


I didn't even know it was by her back then, since the tag was already missing when I bought it.

Lucky me!

And funny thing is, I didn't even realise it was her design, up until the moment I got another t-shirt sporting one of her illustrations, and the drawing style struck me as somehow familiar.

BEYOND DRESS CODES

I'm rather sleep-deprived today, due to a morning battle with Greek bureaucracy in downtown Athens, and therefore unable to put words together in a manner that makes sense, so I'll just quote the Hellenic American Union post:

Beyond Dress Codes is a thematic exhibition with sketches of traditional Greek costumes by sketch artist Gissis Papageorgiou that also features creations by Greek and foreign fashion designers.

The exhibition presents colored drawings of traditional Greek dress and headdresses from all over Greece by sketch artist Gissis Papageorgiou, which constitute the most extensive and possibly most complete inventory of traditional Greek dress to date.

In an attempt to create a “dialogue” between traditional Greek dress and contemporary fashion, creations by Jean-Paul Gaultier and John Galliano will be on show, as well as by other distinguished Greek fashion designers such as Angelos Bratis, Dimitris Dassios, Deux Hommes, Yiorgos Eleftheriades, Ioannis Guia, Sofia Kokosalaki, Thanos Kyriakides, Mastori*Motwary, MiRo, Orsalia Parthenis.

Beyond Dress Codes demonstrates that traditional Greek costume should not be regarded as the antiquated contents of museum showcases, but instead a creation of timeless interest that continues to serve as a source of inspiration.

Curator of the exhibition is fashion historian Lydia Kamitsis.

The exhibition will be open from Monday, September 27th to Wednesday, September 27th 2010 (weekdays 12:00-21:00, Saturdays 10:30-14:30, Sundays closed) at the Hellenic American Union Galleries, 22 Massalias str, Athens and the admission is free. You'd be a fool to miss it.
